Upcoming Matches & Training Sessions

The Reds started today's game at Milnrow missing Luca so it was agreed we would play 6 aside on a large pitch making my morning much easier not having to worry about subs.

Having played Milnrow earlier in the season in a physical game, I reminded the boys to play fair but always want the ball more than the opposition before kick off.

The boys started really well with Roan & Conn both putting pressure on the Milnrow defenders every time they were in possession. When both teams play we do ask a lot of the striker on the team and the usual shout for the Reds is always 'Roan's job' which he did brilliantly in the 1st half harassing the defenders every time they had the ball.

The 1st goal came about from hard work and a bit of luck with Roan stealing the ball and hitting an effort that bobbled over the Milnrow keeper.  Roan celebrated with his usual laid back approach but for me it was a great moment as he has worked really hard the last few weeks with not much coming off and I'm sure his mum would be pleased with a birthday goal for her.

After the goal we started to dominate with Ben & Oscar passing the ball back & fourth before a nice pass up the wing on several occasions. The second goal came with a pass from Ben to Roan, Roan to to Conn and 2-0. Well deserved. The boys continued to pass and the move of the match actually resulted in us conceding a sloppy goal. Over & over the boys passed with the Milnrow boys unable to get a touch, eventually the ball was squared to Ruben who hit the defender on the line which resulted in a goal out of nowhere from Milnrow. Straight from KO Ruben had a run down the line and hit an explosive shot into the top corner, great goal. 3-1 and game over.

Second half continued like the 1st with 90% possession from the Reds and endless attempts on goal. Conn eventually grabbed 2 more goals to make it a treble for him before Milnrow grabbed a consolation after a dubious looking free kick. 5-2.

One disappointing moment was at the end of the match when Alf's dad told me that Alf AKA Bravo, was about to run up for a corner and David(not me) told him to go back??? he gets the next penalty we win.(All remind me) At times he barely gets a touch but stays so enthusiastic and is so reliable. A real team player, well done Alf.

A fantastic team performance from a group of boys who give 100% every week, who are always well behaved and have pretty much been with the Unsworth family since we started 2 years ago. Well done!
