Upcoming Matches & Training Sessions

The blues first defeat in the cup was difficult to take but it was a fair result as the Radcliffe Jets outplayed us for large parts of the game. The positives were Lucas' first goal of the season, Corey coming off his sick bed to score and a man of the match performance from Marcus.

Thanks to Chris, our pitch was the only one on the whole of hillock that was cut but unfortunately the grass trimmings weren't cleared. A late and bizarre call for a rake on WhatsApp was answered by Dave and he and Pat did a great job of clearing the pitch to make it more playable.

Teddy was on his holiday so the blues were down a team mate but luckily Corey did brilliantly to make it despite being ill. Corey went in goal with Lucas at the back, Jacob on the left, Isaac on the right with Gabriel up front. Marcus took his place on the sideline with me as the match kicked off.

Straight away you could see why the Jets had won all their games in the group so far as they raced into a two goal lead after the first ten minutes. The blues were caught out a couple of times as they went in search of a goal of their own. Corey did well to keep it to two with some good saves and all the boys were putting everything into the match.

The next ten minutes were not quite as good as the Jets pulled away. Marcus replaced Gabriel and was doing his best to make something happen.

Unfortunately it was difficult for Unsworth to get out of their own half at times and every little mistake seemed to be punished as the Jets scored another 4.

Isaac hit the post, Marcus was so close to scoring on a number of occasions and Jacob was denied by a good save as well. If we'd of taken any of those chances it may have been a different game but it wasn't to be.

Our only goal came from the big lad at the back. After more good work from Isaac on the right, Marcus' shot was saved and Lucas hit it first time with his left foot under the goalkeeper and in for his first of the season.

This seemed to spur on the blues who played their best football of the game in the closing minutes of the second half.

There were more changes at half time as Corey went up front and Lucas went in goal.

We ask a lot of the boys and all of them played at least two positions today. I know this isn't ideal but hopefully in the long run it will pay off.

Lucas had to pick the ball out of his net a couple of times and we seemed to struggle from our restarts again. Despite not playing our best Marcus continued to try his hardest and some of his through balls and passing was so unselfish and on another day would have led to a lot more goals.

The Jets scored again as Jacob went in goal before one of the nicest moments of the match. Clearly not 100% Corey controlled another excellent Marcus pass before finding the net. The smile on his face as he wheeled away put everything into perspective.

A loss but as I've said it was our first in a very long time. Playing in different positions every few minutes isn't easy and I apologise for that but I want to give everyone a chance. The boys rarely moan and their attitude was first class. We were just beaten by a better side but I sincerely believe with a full time goalkeeper and with the boys playing in regular positions the outcome would have been very different.

Thanks for all your help today I know Chris really appreciates it. From raking the grass, to putting out the nets to getting the boys to training and games on time. We have a special group and we are only going to get better.
