New Season 2010-11

Here we go again....

Unsworth JFC would like to welcome all players and parents to the new season. As some of you will know, we have grown from last season to an impressive 20 teams playing under the Unsworth banner - 16 on a Saturday from Under 7's through to Under 18's and four teams on a Sunday - Under 13, Under 16 playing in the Tameside League, Under 18 in the Bolton Boys Fed and the Open Age team in the Bury Sunday League.

As last season, the BBQ will be up and running from the start of the season. During the closed season, as some will know, our new kitchen was opened and I hope will prove a winner throughout the season serving tea's, coffee's and various drinks together with sweets etc. Colin (the poor thing) will still be outside come rain or shine serving hot food. We hope you all enjoy what's on offer, but if you anyone has any suggestions, please feel free to speak to either myself or Colin (and be nice!!!),

We held our first Unsworth tournament this year for Under 7's, 8's, 9's and 10's in June and raised a staggering £2,400 over the weekend. This proved a great success with teams coming from Merseyside, East and South Manchester. My thanks go to everyone concerned for their hard work over that weekend - Denise, Alan, Denise's Mum and Dad, Paul Morrison and Karen, Nicola Garnett and her mum, Jamie and Lewis Macklin for their work in the car park, Jack Morrison for his stirling work on the Skills Test, and anyone else whom I have forgot. We will be holding another tournament next season so watch this space.

Finally, I would like to wish EVERYONE who will be playing under the Unsworth banner every success for the forthcoming season, especially the new girls team who are the first dedicated girls team to play in the NBJFL against boys teams.

One important reminder, your manager's do this for the 'fun' of it and put an amazing amount of their spare time into the smooth running of your team, so in the ethos of Unsworth - RESPECT and ENJOY.

See you throughout the season - Helen

U12 Vulcans Win Tameside & District League Cup
Written by Denise Middleton
Sunday, 02 May 2010
Today was a perfect day for a Cup Final.
Andy, Brian and their players have been looking forward to the Cup final against Top of the League Boundary Park.
Kick-Off started on time at Ashton United and the pitch was larger than Unsworth had played on. Boundary Park started well and put 2 passed us in the first 10 minutes. The boys dug deep and it was all square 2-2 at half-time.
Andy and Brian's team talk at half-time worked well and they boys played some great football and won 4-3.

Congratulations U12's on winning the Tameside & District League Cup.

Written by Denise Middleton
Wednesday, 03 March 2010
We have joined the Tesco Voucher Scheme for Schools and Clubs.
We are asking for your help in collecting Tesco Vouchers, recycling old mobile phones and empty inkjet cartridges.
We desperately need new corner flags and for every 880 vouchers we will receive 4 corner flags, our target is 8 sets, a set for each pitch.
The vouchers are being issued from Monday 1st March 2010 until Sunday 9th May 2010.

  • One voucher is given for every £10 spent in Tesco stores and petrol filling stations in a single transaction (excluding purchases from Concessions, Tobacco Kiosk, prescription medicines, infant formulae or the sale of National Lottery tickets and scratch cards).
  • One voucher is given for every £5 spent in Tesco Express stores (subject to the above exclusions).
  • For every working phone your club sends in, they will be given 20 vouchers, and 5 for a non-working phone.
  • For every empty inkjet cartridge you send in that can be recycled, you will be given 10 Tesco for Schools & Clubs vouchers.
  • Customers then donate their vouchers to schools or clubs, who exchange the vouchers for free equipment.
  • Please hand all vouchers to your Manager
